Mission of the Technical Education Authority
Drive the advancement of a robust technical education system in Kansas through immediate and long-term technical recommendations based on data-driven factors that ensures the delivery model matches a skilled workforce with business demands.
In response to the findings of the Kansas Technical College and Vocational School Commission, the 2007 Kansas Legislature (HB2556 ) established the Postsecondary Technical Education Authority (Authority) to develop and monitor the state’s technical education system. Under the auspices of the Kansas Board of Regents, the Authority would
1) coordinate statewide planning for existing and new postsecondary technical education
programs and contract training;
2) review existing and proposed postsecondary technical education programs;
3) review requests of state funding for postsecondary technical education and make
recommendations to the Kansas Board of Regents for funding amounts and distribution;
4) develop benchmarks and accountability indicators for the programs;
5) develop and advocate annually a policy agenda for postsecondary technical education; and
6) conduct studies of ways to maximize resources to best meet the needs of business and industry,
making recommendations to the Kansas Board of Regents.
